Atlanta, GA – June 4, 2009 – In partnership with Morehouse School of Medicine, the Emory Prevention Research Center (EPRC) seeks to fund community-based, public health, or health care organizations to build capacity to promote breast and cervical cancer screening among African American women. Proposed projects may include activities such as community needs assessment, training or skills enhancement, community-based activities to promote cancer screening, community coalition building, use of culturally appropriate methods, or program evaluation. Proposals are due on July 24, 2009.
Interested applicants are encouraged to participate in a free teleconference on June 9, 2009 from 1 to 3 pm with the funding organizations. The teleconference will outline application requirements and provide a forum for potential applicants to ask questions. The teleconference is free and open to the public; it will also be recorded and made available for online review after the teleconference date.
Up to four grants of $20,000 will be awarded to community organizations for a maximum project period of one year. Preference will be given to applicants located in and serving vulnerable populations in Georgia, North Carolina, or South Carolina. These grants are made possible through the Southeastern US Collaborative Center of Excellence in the Elimination of Disparities (SUCCEED), a joint effort of Morehouse School of Medicine, the EPRC, and universities in North and South Carolina. SUCCEED is funded by the Centers for Disease Control’s REACH Across the U.S. program, which aims to eliminate racial and ethnic disparities in health.
