Dr. Melinda Greenfield of Albany Dermatology Clinic, P.A. presents R.A.Y.S. - Raising Awareness about Your Skin during a unique, live web-based program originally broadcast June 25, 2009. Participants need not go further than the comfort of their own computers to hear Dr. Greenfield speak live about skin cancer and sun safety.

The web-based event designed for the public is presented by the Southwest Georgia Cancer Coalition in partnership with Southwest Georgia Area Health Education Center (SOWEGA AHEC), with funding provided through the Georgia Cancer Coalition.

During the hour-long event, Dr. Greenfield will discuss melanoma, the most deadly form of skin cancer and the way to detect it, as well as skin cancer prevention and ways to safely enjoy the sun.

"This is an innovative approach to reaching the public with important information about cancer screening and prevention, through the convenience of a computer. People at home, those sitting at their desk at work during lunch, or even visiting the library can join in. We're very excited about it," said Helen Dixson, RN, Education Coordinator with the Southwest Georgia Cancer Coalition.

According to Dr. Greenfield, skin cancers, in general, are the easiest types of cancer to detect and treat as long as they are found early.

"Education is the key to early detection and treatment of these often deadly forms of cancer," Greenfield added.

For best viewing and participation, participants should have access to the following technology - personal computer with Macintosh or Windows with 512 MB of RAM or greater; Broadband internet connection such as an office LAN, DSL or cable modem; phone next to personal computer; computer speakers (built-in or attached); and latest version of Adobe Flash, which can be downloaded for free at www.adobe.com.
