What is Hospice? What is Palliative Care? Webinar Sept. 17 to discuss differences between these valuable patient care choices

What is hospice? What is palliative care?

These are questions asked frequently by patients, family members and others interested in learning more about these valuable care choices for people facing life-limiting illness or injury.

Jeanette Boohene M.D. and Lane Price M.D. of Albany Community Hospice and Palliative Care will address the differences between Hospice Care and Palliative Care during a free, live webinar for the public September 17, 2009. Sponsored by the Southwest Georgia Cancer Coalition with funding support from the Georgia Cancer Coalition, the hour-long presentation is designed to help patients and loved ones dealing with cancer and other serious illnesses better understand care options, with time dedicated for the physicians to answer participants' questions.

Designed to be convenient for the public, the free webinar is accessible from most computers with Internet access and speakers (see additional computer requirements, below). To access the program, participants should go to www.swgacancer.org on September 17 beginning at 11 a.m. to sign in. The program starts at 11:30 a.m.

A graduate of the University of Newcastle, Dr. Boohene is Director of Phoebe Palliative Care. She served a fellowship with the University of Texas, MD Anderson Cancer Center, and is board certified by the American Board of Internal Medicine.

Dr. Price is Medical Director of Albany Community Hospice and Palliative Care. Specializing in hospice and palliative medicine, she graduated from the Medical College of Georgia and is board certified in hospice and palliative medicine by the American Board of Hospice and Palliative Medicine, and in radiation oncology by the American Board of Radiology. Dr. Price's clinical interests include end-of-life care, pain management and cancer.
