Public Awareness and Education

To help provide up-to-date and easy-to-understand cancer information to everyone throughout southwest Georgia, the Cancer Coalition routinely partners with community groups and healthcare organizations in our region.

To name a few, our grant-funded efforts to keep the public informed have included the following:

  • Providing financial and staff support for men's health events at John D. Archbold Memorial Hospital, Tift Regional Medical Center, Phoebe Putney Memorial Hospital and South Georgia Medical Center that provided colorectal and prostate cancer information to over 700 men in our area,

  • Co-sponsoring a skin cancer education lecture by Albany dermatologist Dr. Melinda Greenfield to over 150 local senior citizens, and

  • Educating under-insured and uninsured women age 40 and over in Early and Ben Hill counties about cervical cancer screening and providing them with information on free screening programs in their communities.

Additionally, we continue to raise public awareness of cancer research, specifically cancer clinical trials, through targeted media outlets throughout the region.
