Clinical trials are research studies in which people participate to help doctors better understand cancer prevention or treatment. Each study looks at specific scientific questions to find better ways of preventing, diagnosing or treating different kinds of cancer. Results of patients participating in clinical trials have greatly contributed to how cancer is successfully prevented or treated today.
By collaborating with our local cancer centers, statewide programs such as the Georgia Center for Oncology Research and Education (Georgia CORE), and large academic centers such as Emory University/Winship Cancer Center and the Medical College of Georgia Cancer Center, the Southwest Georgia Cancer Coalition is assisting with bringing more clinical trials to our area. A regional network of clinical trials will allow patients to participate in the newest research and receive the latest advancements in cancer treatments at their local hospital or cancer center instead of traveling far from home.
